There
are many varied places of interest nearby, with the Rock
of Cashel, Cahir Castle, Glen of Aherlow,
the Galtee Mountains, the River Suir and the spectacular
Michelstown Caves to name but a few.
Along with its many places of interest, Shimba
Lodge is ideally
placed for those of who wish to play golf, go fishing, go walking
or spend a day at the horse racing or an evening at the greyhound
racing.
Our nearest town is Cashel which is located about 5 miles
to the east. Cashel is famous for the Rock of Cashel which
is Ireland's most visited monument. Brian Boru was crowned
King of Ireland on this spot in the early 11th century.
It houses an interesting museum, guided tours and superb
views over the extensive and beautiful plains of Tipperary.
Located about 10 miles to the West is Tipperary Town which
is famed in song and history. Nearby, is the Glen of Aherlow
a country valley which lies between the Slievenamuck Ridge
and the main Galty mountain range. It has some of the most
breathtaking scenery imaginable and is a delight to any
visitor.
Nearby
is the town of Cahir which is situated in a delightful
setting on the River Suir. Cahir Castle is sited here which
is one of Ireland's largest and best preserved castles.
